GN Solids Control started in a city named Tangshan, and its former name was Tangshan Guanneng. Later, 3 years ago, GN changed name to Hebei GN Solids Control and moved its main facility to another county in Langfang City, in order to get larger workshops and more advanced manufacturing facilities.

As the expanding of business in all over the world, GN Solids Control’s equipments and systems have been exported to more than 60 countries and regions, one facility is clearly not big enough, especially for most popular product decanter centrifuges. So GN Solids Control constructed a second facility, with 5 more workshops and a new office building, which are for centrifuges, VG dryers and other rotating equipments.

Mud Tank Design In The Drilling Site

The mud tank design affected by the whole drill site and procedure , the surface pits or dirty mud storage is comprised by active circulation system to contain enough usable drilling mud to fill the drill hole . The active surface system will be divided into 2 parts : solids removal and addition suction parts . The solids removal equipment and degassing will be happen in solids removal parts like shale shaker , vacuum degasser , mud cleaner , etc . The addition suction part use adding fresh mud to the circulating system by mixing hopper and mixing pump and provide sufficient residence time for mixing together before mud being pumped into downhole . The slug tank normally use to pump small pills like LCM or barite slugs and each section further divided into enough compartment .

The equalisatio height between mud tank compartment is depend on the duty of the tank compartment . There is a rule that an adjustable equalizer will be need between the solids removal part and addition suction part . There are different mud tank compartment , the sand trap is the compartment under shaker to keep drilling mud after shale shaker . It should be the only settling compartment and preferably should not be used in closed toopsystem . There sand trap floor should have a 45 degree slope to its outlet for selfcleaning and 20 to 30 bbl size capacity .

 

The solids removal equipment will be arrange to remove different size of solids . Shale shaker is the first phase cleaning for bigger drill cuttings ,desander will be sit after shaker to separate sand out and desilter sit after to separate silt out . The decanter centrifuge will be installed depending on drilling condition for 2 to 7 microns separation of fine solids .

Mud cleaner purpose for drilling fluid.

While in complete steps of solids control, mud cleaner is the combination of second and third steps of the mud processing steps.  It is the combination of desander hydrocyclone, desilter hydrocyclone  and the shale shaker for treating process of the drilling fluid.  The main structure of the mud cleaner is define in two parts.  The upper parts are desander hydrocyclones and desilter hydrocyclones that shoot our solids to bottom parts of mud cleaner which is shale shaker.  This combination have the advantage of space saving and operation cost saving.

Drilling fluid mud cleaner is a filtering equipment of solid control purification system. Mud cleaner is composed by inlet, outlet pipe and hydrocyclones. Hydrocyclone is made of PVC, upper cone, and under cone. The overflow line, inlet line and outlet line is fixed by the clamp. The bottom inject outlet can be adjusted and changed it according to drilling cutting in drilling fluid. When adjust the bottom flow mouth, only need screw out the adjusting spray result. Screw on the adjusting spray after changed the bottom flow sand removal exit. The both side of desander are equipped the inlet mouth, when choose the side, the other side need to cover off by blanking cover.

Drilling mud enter into the hydrocyclone inner wall from the feeding of the  hyrocyclone mouth, then tangential enter into hydrocyclone cyliner with high spinning speed will produce the enormous centrifugal force field, the light drilling mud spin upper from the central low pressure areas, and discharged to drilling fluid circulating tank from the overflow exit. The heavy solid phase particles are throw to the cylinder wall by the centrifugal force, which is spiral sinking under the action of the thrust drilling fluid downward spiral and discharged from the bottom flow mouth, the flow to the screen surface.

Mud Gun

GNNJQ series mud guns have following main benefits:

1. for the mud gun nozzles, GN use polyurethane as material, for a better wear proof result and a longer service life. Unless other Chinese suppliers, who mostly use the metal like steel for the nozzle material, Polyurethane is for sure a better choice. Just like the hydrocyclones for desander or desilter, before, the manufactures all use steel ones, but now the high standard solution is the polyurethane ones, the service life is greatly prolonged.

What’s the main equipments for a HDD mud system?

For a high standard configuration, there are 3 steps separation and 1 step of mixing, the separation equipments include: 1. Shale shaker, 2. Desander, 3. Desilter. In order to save space and make the mud unit more compact, there is always a mud cleaner playing a role as combination of desander and desilter. And mixing system is a jet mud mixer consisted by a mixing hopper and a centrifugal pump for feeding.

Of course, per different jobsite condition and composition of mud, end users could change the solution, some use without desander, some without desilter. And some adds equipments for a further and cleaner separation with a decanter centrifuge and even a dewatering unit.

GNDC-40A is one of the 2 standard drilling cuttings waste management systems GN designed for different jobsite requests. GNDC-40A is more suitable for the waste management jobsites which are alongside with the drilling rigs, in this system, there is no tank for containing the liquid phase from the centrifuge, and the centrifuge is hosted at a certain height so that the liquid discharged from the centrifuge flows directly to the active tank of solids control system easily. And when matching with an effective set of solids control system, this drilling waste management system could work continuously.

GNDC-40B is another standard design of drilling waste management system designed by GN Solids Control. It is more suitable for the mud companies or somewhere specially for treating the drilling waste cuttings. In some countries, there is no need for a drilling jobsite to have a waste management system, and the drilling cuttings are transported and collected in a special place for further treating. In this case, we use GNDC-40B, which has a tank for the liquid discharged from vertical cuttings dryer and another tank for the liquid finally discharged from the centrifuge.

Drilling Waste Cutting Management System Onsite Layout Types

Drilling waste cuttings management equipment is more and more used in the drilling industry nowadays. The main cutting drying equipments are the vertical cuttings dryer, drying shaker and high speed decanter centrifuges the cuttings transferring system. According to the different base of the drilling fluids and the cuttings transferring equipment, the drilling waste cuttings management system has several layouts onsite.20150421101534830

Almost the waste cuttings waiting for treatment are collected from the primary drilling solids control equipment like the shale shaker, de-sander, de-silter and barite recovery centrifuge. According to different transferring equipment, the different collection equipment would be used. If the user choose to use the auger as the cuttings delivery equipment, it is better to use the auger also as the waste cutting collecting equipment. The auger is located horizontally at the side of the solids control system mud tank; the length of the auger is decided by the mud tank length. The collected cutting was delivered to the drying equipment by another auger unit. If the user chooses to transfer the cuttings by using the slurry hose pump, then the cutting could be firstly collected by a hopper unit which is connected with a hose pump, the hose pump could transfer the cuttings to the drying unit through the hose. Using the auger would occupy much of the area of the drilling site, while the hose pump could be installed freely with less limitation of space.

As per different base of the drilling fluids, the vertical cuttings dryer or the high G drying shaker would be chosen. GN’s modular design vertical cuttings dryer is the main cuttings drying equipment for oil base cuttings, the effluence out from the dryer is stored firstly in a intermediary tank, then the effluence will be pumped to the waste decanter centrifuge for polishing. The water base cutting mostly transferred to the high G force drying shaker for treatment. GN’s modular design drying shaker unit has a beneath located catching tank for drilling fluids storage and pumped to the centrifuge for further treatment.

The decanter centrifuge could be installed on a telescopic skid, thus the active drilling fluids could flow back to the mud recycling system by gravity force. If the decanter centrifuge is installed on a low mud tank, then the effluence out from the centrifuge would first flow into the mud tank, and then pumped back to the mud recycling system.

At beginning of this month, GN has got an order for 2 sets of solids control systems for 1000 HP rigs which will be working in a middle east country, and the end user is a national owned drilling company in that country.

The 2 drilling rigs now are in USA, under fabrication, and the ordered solids control systems will arrive to the rig jobsite at same time when the rigs are ready. “It is a landmark and a great change of my company”, said the general manager of the drilling company, “because before knowing GN, all of our rigs and equipments were all from USA. GN Solids Control is the first China brand we use, and these solids control systems are only the beginning, but not the ending.”
