The closed loop processing system can be used for both onshore drilling and offshore installations, remote area, processing plants, in-plant installations, and the site remediation projects. Firstly the used drilling fluids flow to primary shale shaker to separate the drilling cuttings out and collected by screw conveyor, which will be transferred to vertical cuttings dryer or high G drying shaker, for solids separation and coarse solids separation, the fluids drop into the intermediate tank and the screw pump will feed the fluids to decanter centrifuge or dewatering centrifuge for fine solids separation, the treated water will be transfer back to solids control system.


The decanter centrifuge can be used to treat both water based mud drilling waste and oil based drilling cuttings treatment, after treated by vertical cuttings dryer and high G drying shaker, the fluids mixture can be treated by decanter centrifuge. The treated water can be reused to prepare for new drilling fluids, the solids can be collected for landfill or for other treatment, then the system is operation as a closed loop processing system. If treated by dewatering centrifuge by adding chemicals additives, the discharged water can be sent to waste water treatment facility for final disposal, and the discharged solids will be sent to thermal desorption unit for further treatment for final disposal.

Decanter centrifuge process parameters adjustment

As one of the decanter centrifuge manufacturer in China, GN solids control provide complete pre sales and after sales support to our customer. When use a decanter centrifuge, it is important to adjust the parameters during process to reach your required treatment result. And when the decanter centrifuge is used for different applications, its parameter adjustment is different.


In actual operation, the mud quality and amount of sludge may change. To ensure the dehydration effect remains same, the user can reasonably select relevant parameters of the decanter centrifuge based on factors such as the material properties of the suspension, the requirements for liquid and solid phases after separation, and processing capacity, such as processing capacity, bowl rotation speed, differential speed between bowl and screw, and overflow plate diameter, to achieve expected separation result.
When the feed rate remains same, the greater of the differential speed, the shorter time that the sludge stays in the centrifuge bowl . Due to the increased relative movement between the bowl and the screw, the solid recovery rate of dehydration and the solid content of the sludge cake will both decrease, but the processing capacity of the centrifuge will increase.
The smaller of the differential speed, the longer time the sludge stays in the bowl. Due to the reduced relative movement between the bowl and the screw, the solid recovery rate will decrease and the treatment capacity will decrease. The differential speed should not be too small, which may lead to solids accumulation inside the bowl and excessive torque which can damage the centrifuge. The differential speed is normally determined based on the solid content of the material.
The user can adjust the centrifuge feeding pump feed rate and adjust the differential speed by the positive pressurized VFD control panel through PLC touch screen, there are main motor, back drive motor and pump motor VFD installed inside the panel.

Oil water separator and oil water separation centrifuge

The oil water separator is a device to remove free non emulsified oil, diesel, gasoline and fuels from a waste stream by using coalescing media. A disc centrifuge ( also known as disc separator) is a 3 phase centrifuge to separate oil and water. Also the 3 phase decanter centrifuge is also widely used as oil, water and solids separation.


Their function is similar to separate oil and water, but working principal is different also the structure is different.
GN oil water separator (short as OWS) with high capacity and easy operation, the disadvantage is that the treatment result can not meet the strict requirement, the main components including OWS main body, coalescing media, cover support beam, openable top cover, oil discharge pipe, feed port, oil outlet, water outlet, sludge discharge. The working principal is that the influent water enters the oil water separator and flows through a tightly stacked bunble of coalescing media. Due to the different gravity, oil decants by gravity into a oil reservoir, the solids slide down the surface of the media, oil free clean water under an oil reservoir baffle to a clean water effluent chamber.

The 3 phase disc separator is design for light liquid, heavy liquid and solids separation, the working principal is by centrifugal force, with the neutral holes of the disc as the interface, the heavy liquid moves along the disc wall towards the outside the neutral hole, the lighter liquid moves along the disc wall into the neutral hole, the heavy solids accumulated in the sediment area, the light liquid and heavy liquid are discharged by the centrifugal pump and the heavy solids is discharged.
The 3 phase decanter centrifuge working principal is also by centrifugal force for the 3 materials with different gravity, especially for oil, water and solids separation.

Oil & Gas Drilling Solids Treatment System

The oil and gas drilling solids treatment system is a solidification or stabilization process of the drilling cuttings/ low gravity solids (including sand, silt, clays). The solids after solidification process will be relatively safe to disposal or landfill and hazardous material will not penetrate into the ground to pollute the water source. The solids discharged from decanter centrifuge is mainly ultra fine solids and can not be separated mechanically again, the economic way is to add chemical additives to prevent the hazardous waste from penetration.


The working principal is as below:
The drilling cuttings are dumped into the collection hopper and transfer to mixing chamber by bottom screw conveyor. At the same time, the lime and absorber are transferred by screw conveyor to the mixing chamber, and mixed by the high shear mixer inside the mixing chamber. The mixed solids are discharged from the discharge port, waste bag can be layed at the bottom of the mixing chamber outlet for convenient collection.
GN solidification unit is designed to suit for container shipment for convenient transportation and reduce transportation cost. The moisture content in the drilling cuttings before treatment will influence the performance of solidification unit and influence the consumption of lime and absorber, which is related to the operation cost. If the drilling cuttings is too wet, the user will need to use more lime and absorber, and the working cost of the solidification unit will be too high. The additives can be replaced to others type equivalent as required.
To reduce the moisture of the drilling cuttings, GN solids control also produce high G drying shaker dewatering centrifuge with chemical dosing unit for water based mud drilling cuttings cleaning. GN ViST vacuum screen technology can be applied with the primary shale shaker to reduce the waste volume and reduce moisture.

    The working principal of centrifugal pump is that the impeller is drived to the periphery by the inertia effect of centrifugal force from the impeller center and gets rotated energy. The working fluids flows around the impeller and get increased static pressure, the fluids pass the impeller and get into the pump casing and the fluid slow down, as a result, the drilling fluids with a high pressure discharged from the outlet and get into the exhaust pipe.
    The centrifugal pump can be installed in a system or separately on the skid for flexible application. Drilling waste cleaning vacuum pump manufacturer in China

GNSP-40B vacuum pump with max capacity 40m3/h for clean water, it will be various based on different material. The vacuum pump is 100% air operated which do not need electricity power supply, it can be safely used for hazardous area application, but it need air compressor for operation. The automatical mode is for continuously working if the suction timer and discharge timer is well set in advance. Not only for drilling waste cleaning, the vacuum pump can be also used to transfer animal waste, sand, diatomaceous earth, vessel bottom, barge holdings, oil sludge and other hazardous waste.

Solids control hydrocyclones equipments

Shale shaker is as the first phase cleaning equipments of drilling rig solids control system, hydrocyclones separation as the second phase cleaning and third phase cleaning equipments of solids control system. Hydrocyclones including 10” desander cone is used to separate solids in the range of 40 microns to 74 microns; 4” desilter cone is used to separate solids in the range of 15 microns to 44 microns. The drop in apex is installed in the taper hole of the pressure nut. The pressing nut can be rotated clockwise to compress the drop in apex to reduce the opening of the drop in apex. Rotate the pressure nut counterclockwise to reduce the pressure on the drop in apex, and restored to its original size. The spray mode can be adjusted by the opening size of the drop in apex during operation.


The hydrocyclones working principal is as below:
The drilling fluids is feed to desander/ desilter cone inlet port by centrifugal pump, causing a whirlpool effect to occur inside the cone, the slurry drives the larger, denser particles outward against the cone wall while the smaller, lighter particles move toward the center of the cone. The low-pressure vortex at the center of the cone drawing in air through the apex at the lower discharge end of the cone. The high-velocity air stream aids the upward flow of liquid and small particles toward the cone’s upper discharge, while the spiraling stream of liquid and larger particles flows downward along the cone wall toward the lower discharge.


The recommend desander and desilter operating pressure varies from different mud weight and specific gravity. The desander cone and desilter cone is made of 100% polyurethane for better abrasion resistance. According to actual requirement, the user can select different quantities of desander cone and desilter cone, the hydrocyclone frame is standard which will installed on top of mud cleaner.

Shale shaker used for Micro Tunneling slurry treatment

Besides for oil and gas drilling industry, shale shaker has been widely used for HDD & engineering application, such as HDD, water well drilling, bored pile, micro tunneling, TBM slurry treatment plant.

Micro Tunneling engineering is a type of big hole horizontal drilling, pipe laying while drilling. This is most typical for laying or replacing water pipes under urban buildings and traffic arteries. Firstly dig out the big vertical wellbore, and install the drilling equipment at a certain depth. The location of the open caisson is slightly lower than the equipment level, forming a sedimentation mud pit, which is conducive to the removal of solid phase. The submersible slurry pump feed the slurry to the mud cleaning unit, which consists of a shale shaker, a mud cleaner, a feeding pump and a small mud storage tank.


The HDD and micro tunneling application including river crossing for pipeline laying in the river bottom, road crossing for pipeline laying, fiber optic cable laying. When laying big size pipeline, a reliable solids control system is required, which consist of the high treating capacity shale shaker, desander, desilter, decanter centrifuge, mud tank, etc. when the engineering site is located in residential and commercial areas, the drilled hole size should be as small as possible, the generated drilling fluids and cuttings should be collected by waste box, the required solids removal unit will consist of a small tank, a feed pump and a small shale shaker.
The shale shaker used for trenchless and engineering projects is normally 2 panel shale shaker and 3 panel shale shaker, the model number is GNZS752 and GNZS703. The composite material frame shaker screen is installed on the shale shaker for longer working life.

The bottom shale shaker of desander and desilter is a 2 panel shaker, installed 2 pcs of composite material frame shaker screen, which is drived by 2 ea of 1.0 KW vibration motor and produce G force up to 7.5G. The updated J version shale shaker with features as below:

The treating capacity is 270m3/h, with horizontal vessel tank diameter 920mm.
